Hydrogen Peroxide and Water to Stimulate Growth and Fight Pests

A two-pronged plant booster

As a self-proclaimed plant papi, one of the things I encounter very often with my myriad of plants…pests.

Chances are you’ve also come across your fair share of little menaces with your own plants. That’s why I decided to write a post about a solution I’ve come across that has been pretty effective against bugs and has an added growth benefit!

With that, let’s get in to “the sauce”.

To make the secret sauce, you only two things..

You’re going to want to add one teaspoon of hydrogen peroxide 3% for every cup (8 oz) of water. You’ll want to use 3% peroxide because it’s already diluted (97% water and 3% hydrogen peroxide). There are stronger peroxides out there but 3% is more readily available and is less irritating than higher concentrations.

Be sure to mix it up well. This ensures the hydrogen peroxide is well distributed throughout the water. The solution can either be used when watering or can be used in a spray bottle and applied to the foliage.

This solution is good for pests because it has the same disinfecting effect as when we use it on ourselves for wounds or burns. As an anti-fungal, it can also reduce the amount of fungi or mold that can be present in overly moist soil — fungi that would otherwise encourage and sustain pests like fungus gnats, flies and weevils.

In addition to its anti-fungal properties, the mixture can kill any eggs that have been laid.

In addition to killing pests, hydrogen peroxide also acts as an oxygenator for the soil.
