Which diet to follow and how to eat well

Do you wonder which diet is best for you? Which diet will help you get your best body and remain that way? Why do you always gain weight once you are off the diet? Why the diet works for a while and then not? How did your friend lose weight with one diet and you couldn’t?

These are some of the many questions that might have bothered you at some point. Now is the time to get all your answers.

During my course at IIN, I studied more than 100 different kinds of diets. From sleep, cabbage, and smoke to Keto, Paleo, Vegan, and everything in between. Surprisingly, all these worked for a few people. And more surprisingly, none of them worked for everyone. In this article, we will explore:

7 Questions To Ask Before You Start A Diet

5 Ways To Eat Right

7 Questions To Ask Before You Start A Diet

Finding the right diet is just like the right cup of coffee or tea. Nobody needs to tell you how much sugar or milk you need in your coffee. It is your perfect cup just the way you like. The right diet is exactly that, the one that works for you. So before you jump on a bandwagon to follow a new or latest diet trend, pause and ask these seven questions to yourselves:

2. Will it fit my budget or is it too expensive to follow?

3. What is the approach: big drastic changes or small sustainable modifications?

4. Will I be able to prepare the meals with equal ease?

5. Will I still be able to eat my favorite food?

6. How flexible is the diet plan?

7. What do you feel when you think of this diet: happy, anxious, overwhelmed, etc.

Write down your answers and meditate on them for a few minutes. Trust your gut and you will know if this new diet you stumbled upon is good for you or not.

5 Ways To Eat Right

For me, following one diet doesn’t work. My diet plan varies depending on the season, my work schedule, and even on my hormones. So, I developed a five-step ladder to help me on how to eat right:

STEP 1

Ask yourself “Am I really hungry”. Many times one might eat just because it’s the time or is getting bored. So next time you open a bag of chips or cookies, take a moment, pause and ask yourself “Am I really hungry”.

STEP 2

Check if your brain is tricking you between “hunger” and “thirst”. A simple way to do this is when you find yourself to be hungry between meals, drink a glass of water. Wait for 5–10 mins and see if you are still hungry.

STEP 3

See if you have options to eat whole and natural foods. For example, choose orange over orange juice or sweet potato over potato. You don’t need to avoid eating anything. It is just about having a wide variety.

Step 4

CHEW more and STOP before you are full. I can’t write enough to emphasize the importance of these two words, CHEW and STOP. Once an inbuilt system now needs a continuous reminder. Remind yourself often to Chew and Stop.

STEP 5

ENJOY. No matter what you eat, if you don’t enjoy it, it will bring no nourishment to your body or soul. When you are in a joyful state your body processes the food differently than when you are stressed. Be grateful and enjoy your meals.

Not all days are the same and so you might not need the same kind of food every day. Listen to what your body demands and eat what is right for you.
