The Chase is the Prize

So many people believe that BUYING THINGS OR GETTING YOUR WAY is the key to happiness.

Every time you get what you want or a prize, you get a small surge of a happy chemical called Dopamine.

In a world where everyone is trying to sell you something, prizes are everywhere. And yet most people are unhappy no matter how much they “have”. Why?

Because they believe in quick fixes. And this is a mistake.

The chase is where its at.
-
The chase gives your life meaning and purpose.
Have you ever wanted something so bad, chased after it, even though it wasn’t easy, struggled for it and got it through sheer hard work?

Wasn’t that the most thrilling time of your life? The ups, the downs, the wins, the losses? Your life had so much meaning. It was the journey you remember, not the prize.

Which brings me back to my next question…What happens when you reach the top of the mountain?

Nothing.

Life still goes on. Accept this.

Life isn’t always about getting your way. Its about who you have to become to get what you want.

This is why patience is prized. And character. And the ability to overcome.

At the end of your destination, is a very short lived dopamine hit and that’s it.

Learn to enjoy the process.

The chase is where you get the steady flow of dopamine spikes that make you feel happy as you get closer and closer to your prize over a longer period of time.
