Amazon has unveiled its new biometric payment system using palm recognition as a way to pay the bills and other commodities. The new technology has made available to the retail shops that are officially under Amazon.
The new technology has promoted as a replacement for badge entry at stadiums or other workplaces. Amazon uses the palm of your hand to identify you, by using the combination of surface-area details such as lines, ridges, vein pattern.
The ‘’palm signature’’ will be officially in Amazon’s Go store in Seattle, the company also plans to add Amazon’s new technology to the other stores in the coming months.
The new announcement of the Palm signature has introduced due to the rapid growth of the use of biometric payments ranging from fingerprint verification, facial recognition, and other sophisticated systems.
The new shift also raised the privacy concerns about how biometric data will be safeguarded to protect the hackers.
Amazon said the biometric data would be “protected by multiple security controls and palm images that are never stored on the Amazon One device” but send to a “highly secure area we custom-built in the cloud.’’
Amazon One will be using scanning hardware with the set of algorithms to capture and encrypt a palm image. The user doesn’t need an Amazon account to use the service, it only needs a phone number and a credit card number. Amazon One also added that the users will be also able to delete the biometric data if they no longer wish to use the service.
Amazon One will appear first in two Seattle based stores. The company is also has a clear ambition of setting more stores in many locations beyond the just two stores of its own.
