What Did the 2021 Elections Tell Us?

Democrats need to stop dicking around and start passing legislation

I’m still processing the results of the governors’ races in New Jersey and Virginia last night. Election Day 2021 was supposed to be a referendum on the Biden presidency. If that’s true, Biden is in big trouble.

In Virginia, a state that Biden won by 10%, the Republican Glenn Youngkin won by 2.5%. And the way that he did it was truly frightening.

He did it without Trump.

His opponent, Democratic former governor Terry McAuliffe, tried unsuccessfully to associate Youngkin with Trump, but Youngkin managed to keep Trump at arm’s length and out of the state.

He instead concentrated on issues that mattered to voters, keeping critical race theory out of the schools (it’s not actually taught in Virginia’s elementary and secondary schools) and election integrity (also not a thing).

Republican candidates in the 2022 midterm elections now have a roadmap on how to win their races without the taint of Trump.

Democrats have shot themselves in the foot. They had a rare opportunity to pass meaningful legislation that the American people desperately want and need.
